Yoga

On the surface, yoga is a beautiful and powerful physical practice. Then, class by class, layer by layer, you begin to unearth an entire universe inside yourself… a unique landscape where mind, body, and spirit both intersect and intertwine.

It is at this point of intersection that we become brilliantly aware. Aware of who we are and what we are made of on the deepest levels. By working consciously and methodically on the physical plane we begin a journey inward toward these magical, hidden vistas.

I invite you to come explore.

I teach Hatha Yoga, specializing in Private Lessons,
working one-on-one with students in order to help them fulfill their highest potential through yoga. Hatha can be a vigorous workout, a calm and relaxing experience, or an intricate combination of the two.

Together we can find a style that’s right for you.

Why Private Lessons?

For new students, doing a quick search online will bring up countless options for studios and classes, leaving yoga’s popularity unquestionable… and yet in my experience there are MANY people who have some interest in this newfound ancient practice but have not yet explored it because, for various reasons, they are not comfortable going into a big studio environment.

Likewise, there are those who have practiced yoga in the past but perhaps need help refocusing on proper alignment, have had a change to their physical health, or who want to go deeper into the personal nature of the practice outside of a group setting. These are all people who would benefit greatly from private lessons.

A few of the scenarios where one-on-one can be the most appropriate way to go:

  • beginners who need extra attention to understand all aspects of the practice
  • anyone working through injury, chronic illness or any sort of physical impairment
  • anyone wanting to understand better and safer alignment
  • those wanting to build strength and flexibility in general or in particular areas
  • those who need to work yoga around their own schedule
  • those who want specialized attention in working through old emotion or trauma… yoga is very powerful in this respect
  • anyone seeking stress management, decompression or relaxation
  • those seeking relief from depression or anxiety, particularly good for those with social anxiety around a group classes
  • those wanting help facilitating a regular meditation practice
  • anyone who simply wants or needs more individualized attention, for any reason

Working one-on-one with clients is the forming of a special relationship. My students have ranged in age from their 20’s to their 70’s and have come to me with a wide range of physical ability and experience. Some are simply looking for the physical benefits…greater strength and increased flexibility… and some are looking for the mental and emotional benefits, such as mental clarity and decreased stress levels. Regardless of what initially draws someone in, there is much to be gained on every level, and while the physical practice can look quite different from person to person…

…the transformation of yoga is universal.

When working with a new student it is important for me to understand what it is you seek from yoga so I know where to place the focus of the foundation we’re building. Individual sessions will be tailored specifically to you and what we work on will be a collaborative effort… meaning, I will ask you very detailed questions about your health and goals around yoga and I will create lessons based on your specific needs, knowing those needs may change at any time.

Generally, I ask students to commit for a period of time so that your efforts have time to show tangible results. Much like going to the gym, if you only go once or twice it is unlikely you will see much change or notice any effect. But with time, repetition and careful attention, change will become apparent, not just in the physical realm, but in the mental and emotional realms as well. In working with clients individually, that growth tends to be more obvious, as I am focusing on YOUR particular goals and needs versus that of an entire classroom, and our one-on-one lessons will help facilitate that evolution in a very noticeable way.

Beginners are welcomed and encouraged!
